Ordinate a partire da 21,417,287 parole di tedesco reale. Queste 100 parole rappresentano il 49.1–49.6% di tutte le parole del tedesco corrente: imparare questa pagina vale più delle mille parole successive.
La classifica non è un'opinione. È misurata su due corpora pubblicati dal Leipzig Corpora Collection dell'Università di Lipsia, conteggiati per lemma, e ogni parola riporta il suo rango reale. Il metodo, compreso ciò che è stato escluso e perché, è spiegato per esteso, e gli script che producono questi numeri sono inclusi nel sito.
Ogni parola è accompagnata da ciò che serve per usarla: i sostantivi con articolo e plurale, i verbi all'infinito, e ogni voce dentro una frase d'esempio tradotta in italiano. 36 voci hanno una nota quando la parola è una trappola comune: un omografo, un sostantivo non numerabile o un falso amico. L'esercitatore in cima alla pagina usa le stesse 182 parole con flashcard, scelta multipla, ascolto e ripasso a intervalli.
Il rango 1 è la parola più frequente del corpus, il rango 100 la centesima. La lista è dominata dalla meccanica grammaticale — articoli, pronomi, preposizioni, ausiliari — perché è davvero ciò di cui il tedesco è fatto. Ogni parola compare dentro una frase completa, perché una parola come zu da sola non insegna nulla.

Ecco perché questo centinaio vale più del migliaio successivo. Circa 500 parole ben scelte permettono di seguire e sostenere scambi quotidiani semplici; da 1.000 a 2.000 rendono comode quasi tutte le situazioni di ogni giorno.
Perché la frequenza delle parole è estremamente sbilanciata, e questa pagina misura esattamente quanto.
